HH Bhakti Marg Swami Visits

HH Bhakti Marg Swami will be visiting New Govardhana from Sunday 30th November to Tuesday 2nd December.

Maharaja will be giving classes at the Sunday Feast and Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Maharaja is also organizing a drama to be performed at the Summer Festival. If interested, please come along and sign up!

With a background in fine arts, Swami also developed a passion for the performing arts. Even in the course of his duties as a monk, he expands his portfolio and manages to take an active role in theatrical productions from epics of ancient Indian origin. Casting, scripting, and directing morality theatre takes him annually to venues from North America to India and Africa.

Finally, Bhaktimarga Swami achieved a remarkable feat in 1996 when he went the way of a pilgrim and walked on foot cross country from west to east and then back for a return journey from Cape Spear, Newfoundland to Vancouver Island in 2003, going full circle. He likes to share of his unique experience and fond memories on the road after trekking 16,000 kms. Swami is a consistent feature in “The Longest Road”, a recent National Film Board documentary detailing the history of the people who shaped or were shaped by the Trans Canada Highway, the world’s longest continuous maintained road.

Video Presentations by Sadaputa Dasa

Video Presentations on Science of Krishna Consciousness "The Mysterious Origins of Man" by Sadaputa Das: will be screening again on Sunday, October 5, at 6:45pm

Dear Devotees and Friends,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Last Thursday, 18th September, Sadaputa Prabhu, author of Forbidden Archaeology, Alien Identities, Hidden History of the Human Race and Mechanistic and Nonmechanistic Science (and many more publications), left his material body. In his lifetime Sadaputa Prabhu wrote many books explaining the Krsna conscious philosophy to scientific and academic communities and produced numerous videos depicting the workings of the universe according to the knowledge of the Vedas.

In honour of the many devotional works of Sadaputa Prabhu, New Govardhana will be screening his videos every Sunday for the next few weeks in the temple-room. The first of these videos will be shown this coming Sunday- 28th September. Its title is The Mysterious Origins of Man in which Sadaputa Prabhu and Drutakarma Prabhu, both Srila Prabhupada's disciples, present startling archaeological discoveries that refute popular beliefs about the history of our Earth, including its inhabitants. This video presentation went to air in the USA in the 1990s, causing many academics to contact the television station to enquire further about the presenters and the sources of their information. Other presenters in this video include Graham Hancock, author of Fingerprints of the Gods and similar books addressing the controversies surrounding the history of our Earth.

We strongly encourage all devotees and guests to attend these screenings, in order to benefit from Sadaputa's and other devotees' insightful and expert manner in which to explain the science of Krsna consciousness. Screenings will begin in the temple-room after prasadam each Sunday at approx. 6.45 pm. Hare Krsna!

For more information or order a copy of one of these videos/DVDs please visit this website.

Daily Rounds

By Maha-nidhi Swami

Chanting a fixed number of rounds of Hare Krsna maha-mantra japa is the most urgent necessity and important engagement of a devotee’s each and every day. It should be completed before anything else. There are many Vaisnavas in Vrndavana who will not even drink a drop of water until they finish 64 rounds.

Unfortunately, for many devotees this vital activity is often relegated to a secondary position while other concerns like body, family cares and tasks at hand take priority. Under illusion, one wakes up in the morning thinking, “I have many pressing things to do. I must make e-mails, phone calls, read the newspaper and watch the televised news. What’s the hurry, I have all day to chant my rounds.”

Chanting Krsna’s holy names, the very life breath of the soul, becomes a mere trifling thing to do at some other time. Pity-how what should be done first is done last! In describing the word determination, Srila Prabhupada said that chanting the holy names of Krsna is more important than eating and sleeping. "If you cannot finish sixteen rounds, then you must not sleep on that day and you must not eat. Why do you not forget to eat? Why do you forget chanting Hare Krsna? This is negligence, aparadha, offense. Rather you should forget your sleeping and eating and finish sixteen rounds. This is called determination." (Spt 28/1/74).

To please Guru, Gauranga and Krsna, purify the heart, and attain perfection on the path of devotion one must chant a fixed number of rounds daily. It only takes about two hours to finish sixteen rounds. Some devotees, due to mental purity and practice from the present and past lives, finish sixteen rounds in one hour.

Giridhari Gopala

This is a traditional glorification of Gopala. Can you hear how this genre of music conveys devotional subtlety? Compare that to contemporary fare and its pretty clear how these arts are on the brink of extinction.
